“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword [energizing/effective], piercing to the division of soul and of spirit [completeness of a person], of joints and of marrow [deep part of our nature], and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
Hebrews 4:12
There are three parts of a human (tripartite) includes a spirit, a soul, and a body. The soul is made of our mind, our will, and our emotions. It tells us what we want, think, and how we feel.
If you haven’t develop a relationship with God yet, the body and soul take primary charge over in what we feel like doing. Not everything we desire or want is necessary wrong. However, when we are led by our body and soul, it will lead us into trouble.
When we study and read the word of God, our spirits become strengthen. His word exposes the intentions of our hearts and the thoughts we have. The more time you spend, the quicker you’ll realize that the desire to do what God wants will outweigh what we want.
Overall, the word of God has the ability to divide the spirit and soul. To truly understand our thoughts, desires, and feelings and what is the true essence of God.
